Mum’s knee seems to have – finally – cleared up; the latest round of antibiotics she was prescribed by the doctor in Forfar appear to have done the trick.

Our weather these days can be summed up in one word – hot!  For the past month or so, we’ve been having daily averages of around 42°C (108°F) – and most mornings it’s already 35°C (95°F) by 9.00am.  These past few days, the thermometer has even hit 45°C (113°F) – and it’s just going to get hotter and hotter from now until summer of course, when we can expect daily highs of 48°C (118°F) and above.  And of course there’s little chance of any rain until next January…

Our most recent visitor was Alan, who arrived a week past Wednesday, en route back to Bangkok from Scotland.  He subsequently left for Bangkok the following Monday morning. We’re not expecting too many visitors over the summer months (too hot!), although Maureen and Frank have confirmed their visit in October, by which time it should have started to cool down slightly.

Been having lots of work trips recently – I’m in Abu Dhabi two or three times a week (it’s about a 1.5 hour drive from Dubai); then I’ve also had a couple of trips to Kuwait (1.5 hour’s flight from here); a trip to Cairo (Egypt), to prepare for a first-time store opening there for a major retail client of ours and also a short trip to Beirut (Lebanon) for a meeting.  Week after next I’ll be back in Cairo for about a week, for the actual client’s store opening.

Cairo felt like a bigger/dirtier/more polluted version of Jakarta, whereas Beirut was a much more likeable city – it’s basically spread out over the slopes of a mountain, overlooking the Mediterranean...a beautiful location.  Had a bit of time to tour around the city and its environs before heading back to Dubai – and will definitely go back for a proper holiday there before much longer.  Just too bad there are so many troubles there at the moment – the people really need a break from all the fighting.

Otherwise, there’s not much else to report on from here for the time being.

Updates...updates...

FRIDAY 1st AUGUST 2008 - Uploaded more pictures to the Life in Dubai page

Why "teuchter"?

Why "teuchter"?  I'll give you a definition from the Dictionary of the Scots Language : "A term of disparagement or contempt used in Central Scotland for a Highlander, especially one speaking Gaelic, or anyone from the North; an uncouth, countrified person" - kind of like the Malaysian term "jakun", for any Malaysians reading this.

TITLES:

Dauvit's (no sae) wee wabsteid = David's (not so) little website.

Scrievins, picturs an thochts o ae teuchter wha bides in Dubai = Writings, pictures and thoughts of a "teuchter" who lives in Dubai
